When I was at school I once got a book from the library on the subject and, to my, and everyone else's, amazement, succeeded in hypnotising someone.
When I was at University (reading Philosophy and Physics) I had friends reading Philosophy and Psychology who were interested in ESP experiments. When they wanted to work with hypnotised subjects, and the only hypnotist in the Department was too busy to participate but offered to take enough time to teach someone else to do it, I found myself volunteered (on the old army principle) on the basis of my previous experience (!)
In fact I found that I had some ability and became quite a good hypnotist. The experiments were inconclusive but I have retained an interest in hypnotism over the years and read new works and papers on the subject from time to time. I am not a therapist but occasionally help friends with minor prolems such as smoking, dieting, relaxing and fear of flying. (The commonest reason I am asked to hypnotise people is curiosity - they want to see what it is like.) I also lecture on "The History and Practice of Hypnotism" to Rotarians, Rotract, Townswomen's Guilds, Scouts & Guides, Schools and Colleges, and similar organisations within reasonably easy reach of Newbury (England) where I live. Even on my travels I am occasionally asked to lecture on silicon chips to electrical engineers during the day and on hypnotism to some other organisation in the evening.
Invite me to give a lecture. (I normally charge £50 plus travel expenses, but will reduce or waive the fee in deserving cases.)
