Slow Closing - Microsoft Office 97

Sometimes software in Office 97 becomes very sluggish when closing or running macros.
This is caused by a known fault, but Microsoft and other tech support sources seem to overlook it.
It can sometimes take several minutes to close a file, during which time no Office program will respond.

The problem is in Outlook which, unless prevented, creates journal entries for Office 97 programs.
This takes a LOOOONG time.

THE FIX

Click "Options" in the Tools Menu of Outlook then click the "Journal" tab and clear all the check boxes of the "Also record files from" list. Then click "Apply" and then "OK".

I should be interested to know if this page has solved a long-standing problem - finding out what was happening to my friend's computer took me over a year.
